Based on Chinese aesthetics and the local culture of Hangzhou, and inspired by the culture of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), “Xixi Tonight” portrays the story of the distinguished Hong family during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). The father character, Hong Hao, who served as an envoy for his country and left home for 15 years, devoted himself to safeguarding the peace of his country. The mother character, Mrs. Shen, stayed at home and educated their children alone until they became elites. The couple’s love story and the Hong family’s patriotic spirit became a timeless beautiful legend, spreading throughout the Xixi wetland area.

The utilization of some modern technologies also helped to emphasize the unique beauty of this show. It adopted indoor and outdoor live drama, a series of artistic digital stage installations, a 360-degree rotation of the auditorium, light and sound effects, holographic sound and projection, simulation technology and multimedia control to provide an immersive experience for audiences. In the viewing area, visitors soaked themselves in a natural “oxygen bar” and felt the fresh air while watching the show.
